City announces theme for annual Christmas parade
Disney - Towmater
Tow-mater from the movie "Cars" was a popular parade entry in 2012 as local residents had fun with the Disney theme.

The city of McMinnville is bringing back the magical feel for its 2014 Christmas Parade, which is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6, at 2:30 p.m.
McMinnville Parks and Recreation program coordinator Kendra Foust announced Wednesday the theme is A Disney Christmas.
“We thought everyone had fun in 2012 with Disney and we wanted to bring that back,” Foust said. “They really seemed to enjoy themselves. We hope the advance notice will allow people to get creative with their floats.”
In 2012, the grand marshal was Mickey Mouse. The grand marshal has yet to be determined this year, however, under consideration is something out of this world – stormtroopers. While “Star Wars” characters are not traditionally considered Disney, the “Star Wars” series is now owned by Disney.
Parade entries should stick to the Disney theme. Any Disney movie can be used in a Christmas way, such as “Toy Story,” “Cars,” “Winnie the Pooh,” “Muppets,” “Alice in Wonderland,” “Bambi,” “Tinker Bell,” and “Snow Buddies,” to name a few.
Several queens and various titleholders are featured in the parade, with this the perfect time to choose a favorite Disney character and dress as that character. A Snow White, Pocahontas, Alice, Cinderella or even a fairy would add to the Disney ambiance.
The only Santa Claus that will be allowed will be St. Nick himself as he takes his place of honor at the end of the parade. Parade entries must be careful, Foust says, if they choose to base their float on the movie “The Santa Clause” because only one Santa is allowed.
The parade will begin at McMinnville Civic Center and end at the water tower beside the Farmers Market. Entries will line up at the Civic Center beginning at noon. The parade begins at 2:30 p.m. During the parade, candy cannot be thrown.
Entry forms can be picked up at the Chamber of Commerce, McMinnville City Hall, or McMin-nville Civic Center. The deadline for registration is Nov. 21. No entries will be accepted after the deadline.
