A woman along for the ride when her boyfriend stole gas for his Mercedes got half the time as her partner in crime, ordered to serve 180 days behind bars for her role in the fuel heist.
The woman, Beth Damon, 22, entered guilty pleas before Circuit Court Judge Bart Stanley to charges of theft and burglary and was ordered to serve 180 days of a four-year sentence. She will also be required to make restitution to Morrison Tank and Vault which was the victim in the case.
Her partner in crime, Adam Cope, 29, was ordered to serve a year of a four-year sentence behind bars when he entered pleas to similar charges earlier this year. Like Damon, he was ordered to pay $1,120 restitution to the victimized business.
Damon and Cope were seen entering a building at Morrison Tank and Vault by a night watchman who witnessed them stealing gas.
“They were seen entering a building and then turned on the pumps to get some fuel,” said sheriff’s investigator Jody Cavanaugh in his warrant against the pair. “The night watchman observed the subjects steal the diesel fuel and also open the trunk to the Mercedes to put a bucket in the trunk.”
A search of their trunk netted numerous items that had been stolen, including things like grinders, drills and a welding helmet.
Both Damon and Cope had been arrested on an earlier occasion following a traffic stop in which they were caught in possession of numerous items used in the production of meth. Damon ended up getting a 180-day sentence for that crime.
