County rejects SUVs for sheriff's department

Sheriff Jackie Matheny and members of the Warren County Sheriff’s Department had hoped to purchase SUVs to be added to their fleet for the coming year at a budget cost of $145,000. However, those hopes were dashed when the proposal came before the county’s Budget and Finance Committee.Committee chairman Herschel Wells said, “They need to go back to fuel-efficient vehicles. They don’t need SUVs.”“He’s got too many already,” said Commissioner Michael Martin referring to the county’s SUVs.The committee rejected the measure by a 5-0.
