City officials will be considering encouraging the enforcement of an ordinance that forbids riding bicycles or skateboards on sidewalks in historic downtown McMinnville. The ordinance exists, but is not enforced.Safety Committee members will be meeting Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. at City Hall to discuss authorizing McMinnville Public Works Department to install signage in the business district that forbids riding bicycles or skateboards on sidewalks. On the committee are Mike Neal, chairman, Rick Barnes and Ken Smith.Neal says the issue is definitely about safety.“As a business owner in downtown, I have seen occasions where people walk out of a business and almost get run over by a kid on a bicycle,” said Neal.
