City fights over Bluegrass Underground funding
Bluegrass-Underground
A measure to underwrite Bluegrass Underground in its first season on television was accepted by McMinnville officials Tuesday night to the tune of $50,000. Its passing did not bring harmony to the board with a split vote of 4-3. McMinnville Mayor Norman Rone, Vice Mayor Everett Brock and Aldermen Billy Wood and Clair Cochran voted for it, while Aldermen Jimmy Haley, Rick Barnes and Junior Medley voted against it.Some discussion was held prior to the vote, which shed some light on why the board was divided.“Did the county come up with its $25,000?” asked Medley.City officials originally discussed splitting the $50,000 with the county, as increased tourism into the community would benefit the city and county.“So far, we have not gotten an answer on that,” said Rone.
