The Board of Mayor and Aldermen will be meeting for its Regular Session on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. Up for discussion is something that is less than regular – eliminating the city administrator position. Alderman Mike Neal asked Finance Committee members on July 8 to consider repealing the ordinance that created the position as a way to reduce controversy, ease conflict between board members, and remove Mayor Jimmy Haley as interim city administrator because, according to Neal, he has too much power and has overstepped his authority.Neal, contacted on Friday by the Southern Standard, says he is still interested in doing away with the position.“I have not changed my mind,” Neal said. “I see eliminating the position as the only immediate relief for the abuses of the present city administrator.
