Children undergoing kindergarten screening

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are big days for upcoming pre-schoolers and kindergartners. Pre-K and kindergarten screenings for all children who will enter those grades in 2014-15 will be held at Bobby Ray Elementary gymnasium, 504 North Chancery Street, on those days.
Children who will be 4 years old by Aug. 15, 2014 may apply for Warren County Schools pre-K program. Parents choosing to apply for pre-K who did not register Tuesday may register Wednesday, April 9, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Children who will be 5 years old by Aug. 15, 2014 are eligible to attend kindergarten in the 2014-15 school year. Children entering kindergarten may register Thursday, April 10 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday, April 11, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
 Centertown teacher Melany Crothers said, “The state has changed eligibility requirements for students entering pre-K and kindergarten. Students can enter earlier as dates have moved up. We are wanting to get the information out to everyone to make sure children who are eligible for pre-K and kindergarten know when screenings are being held and at what age a child may begin school.”
 To apply for pre-K, please bring:
 1. Proof of income (prefer income tax form for 2013)
 2. Proof of address
 These must be brought to Bobby Ray gymnasium.
 Also, if child, family, or any member of household qualifies for one of the following, please provide proof:
 • Early Headstart
 • Headstart
 • Foster Care
 • Homeless
 • Migrant
 • Families First
 • Siblings who met eligibility for free or reduced meal program in 2013-2014
 • Family receives food stamps (please provide number).
 Please call Bobby Ray school at 473-9006 to schedule a pre-K appointment.
 The registration process for kindergarten will take approximately one hour and parents/ guardians should stay with their child throughout registration.
 The following records should be brought with the child when attending kindergarten registration:
 1. Birth certificate                                  
 2. Social Security number
 3. Health insurance card
 4. Immunization record and record of medical examination by a physician
 5. Proof of address
 All children must complete one year of state-approved kindergarten before they enter first grade in Tennessee.
If your child will be attending kindergarten at Bobby Ray, Centertown, Dibrell, Eastside, Hickory Creek, Irving College, Morrison or West Elementary, call the school your child will attend for an appointment. School secretaries will arrange a convenient time for registration.
