A Rock Island man faces evading arrest charges after he almost backed over a deputy who was trying to stop him.The suspect, Vondale E. Solomon, 25, is charged with evading arrest and driving on a revoked license and is set to have his case heard before General Sessions Judge Bill Locke on Dec. 3.The incident in question happened as deputies were arriving to respond to a routine call at his home.“I saw back-up lights come on from the vehicle,” said deputy Newman Ford, noting he got out of his patrol car and asked Solomon to identify himself. Instead, Solomon tried to flee.“He stepped on the gas and came backing up at the patrol vehicle,” Ford said. “I was almost hit by the vehicle.”Solomon then sped out of the driveway at a high rate of speed and momentarily lost officers before they found him again.“He was observed losing control of the vehicle and went into a yard and left at a high rate of speed again,” Ford said, adding that since they knew who was driving the vehicle, they called off the chase.
