The annual Great Bodies Car Show and Swap Meet will be held Aug. 15 at Walmart from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“This a great way to have fun, see some awesome rides and raise money for Families in Crisis,” said event organizer Blaine Wilcher.
Wilcher, who is an avid runner, organizes and helps with 5K runs in the community to benefit nonprofit organizations. He took a different fundraising path four years ago after he became the Warren County Commission’s representative on the Families in Crisis board.
“Immediately after becoming the County Commission’s representative on the Families in Crisis board, I was approached about putting on a 5K run as a fundraiser,” said Wilcher. “My response was no. The reason for that answer was the fact I already put on three races a year with Main Street McMinnville plus help with several more. I thought it would be a great opportunity to do something new.”
The car show came from another of Wilcher’s passions – cars.
“Being a mechanic’s son, I thought it would be awesome to do a car show and swap meet,” he said. “I was able to help create a cool logo and name for the car show. Great Bodies, means just that. The automobiles, motorcycles, rat rods, etc. in our show have great bodies. The capital G is for “G” body cars. Those are 1978 to 1988 Chevy cars. We have a special class for them.”
Great Bodies was an instant hit with car enthusiasts and has raised thousands of dollars for a good cause.
“The show continues to grow every year,” said Wilcher. “We have a DJ playing mostly ’80s music, great food, games, door prizes, silent auctions and some of the best dash plaques and awards around. We are expecting to reach the $10,000 mark this year. The show will be at Walmart on Aug. 15 and is $25 per entry or swap meet booth.”
