A driver was killed while his passenger escaped serious injury Sunday afternoon when their vehicle crashed and overturned on Lawson Mill Road near Flat Rock. The fatally injured victim, James G. Cantrell, 30, was pronounced dead at the scene after he was partially ejected from the rolling wreckage. His passenger, Mattie Smith, 26, suffered non life-threatening injuries.Highway Patrol investigators say the difference between the two was Smith was wearing her seatbelt, while Cantrell was not.
