Game-winning hits, marathon matchups and must-see softball will soon be over at Centertown. The youth leagues are wrapping up this week with champions being crowned every night.

Ozzy’s Transport started the trophy collecting this week by winning the boys junior league title Monday. Ozzy’s Transport ended Mt. View Monuments impressive tournament run by winning the championship game 4-1. It came just three days after Mt. View Monuments, the No. 3 seed entering the tournament, won 12-9 over Ozzy’s to force the if-necessary championship game.

Cherry Springs Nursery was the next champion honored this week as the young group of ballers won the T-Ball championship. The boys and girls in powder blue went through the year unbeaten, first going 10-0 in the regular season before winning all three of their tourney games.

The title game was a nail-biter as DS Farm Supply wouldn’t go quietly. Cherry Springs ultimately prevailed 17-16, getting key hits from Nora Bouldin, Breann Tobitt, John David Locke, Kelah Floyd, Elliot Shehane, Alice Bouldin, Arie Shehane and Camilla Lopez.

Just as Cherry Spring Nursery was wrapping up its perfect year, Prater Realty was busy finishing off a 17-16 title win of its own in the senior league.

There weren’t just title winners on Tuesday though; Two teams punched their ticket to the finals as well. Holder Realty won a three-hour slugfest over Warren Apparel in the girls junior league, ultimately prevailing 37-27. The two met again Thursday night with the title on the line, but the game wasn’t completed by press time.

Thursday’s coach-pitch championship also wasn’t completed by press time, but it featured Spring Landscape and Mowing and State Farm. State Farm earned its way to the title game by beating Dream Builders 15-14 Tuesday.

League champions (regular season or tournament) can submit photos to the Standard to run in subsequent issues later this month. Email team pictures to sports@southernstandard.com and please include names of players, the team name and the league won.
