Austin Melton hit two free throws with 13.2 seconds left to help seal the Dibrell Wildcats’ 40-36 victory over the Eastside Bulldogs in the Warren County elementary boys championship game.
Christian Wilkinson fed Dillon Bennett for a layup with 1:31 to play to make it 38-36, then Melton capped off a possession where Dibrell took 45 seconds off the clock with two free throws to put the game away.
Wilkinson scored a game-high 19 points for Dibrell and earned the tournament MVP award in the process.
Baskets by Trey Cantrell and Bennett, along with free throws from Wilkinson and Melton were enough to push Dibrell past Eastside in the fourth quarter after the teams played to a 31-31 stalemate after three quarters.
Cantrell and Malachi Barrett scored six points apiece for Dibrell. Melton added five, followed by Bennett with three. Ethan Green scored one point.
Dibrell completed a sweep of the regular-season and tournament titles with the four-point victory.
Hunter Hawkins scored 12 points as Eastside fell one game short of the championship. Rounding out the Eastside scoring were Cito Garcia with seven, Tyler Beaty with five, Mitchell Stembridge and Raleigh Woods with four points each and Dakota Nunley and Alex Yates with two points apiece.
