WCMS wins big on Pinkout night

The home opener was everything the WCMS 7-8 grade teams were hoping for and much, much more. The Lady Pioneers and Pioneers dominated visiting Franklin South and fans and players alike also did amazing work supporting a great cause. 

The WCHS girls team picked up its first win this year by pummeling the visiting Lady Trojans 59-13, while the Pioneers improved to 2-0 this year with a win59-20 triumph. Both teams also paid homage to Breast Cancer Awareness month with a Pinkout, including all players wearing some pink on the floor.

The Lady Pioneers were coming off a tough loss on the road to start the season, but they left no doubt at home Thursday. Warren County built a 27-5 lead in the first quarter, absolutely torching the nets to go up huge on the visitors. Cortlyn Porter, Brynlee Chisam and Abagail Netherton all hit triples during the surge, while  Aubrey Oleksik attacked for three baskets on her way to a game-high 10 points. The avalanche of points from the Lady Pioneers allowed 11 players to get in the scorebooks in the victory.

In the boys game, the Pioneers started slow but finished with a flourish. Warren County trailed 10-8 after the opening six minutes, but outscored the Gators 30-4 in the second half (including shutting the visitors out in the third quarter. 

Canaan Parris (19 points) and Luke Simpson (18 points) led the charge offensively.
