It seems like Todd Willmore hasn't lost his touch when it comes to winning games on the pitch. The legendary leader of Lady Pioneer soccer is back to fielding great teams as his WCMS squad is looking like a contender this season.
Warren County started its season with back-to-back wins on the road, beating Coffee County 3-1 Tuesday and DeKalb County 6-2 Thursday. The JV team also picked up a big victory, stomping Coffee County 9-0.
Willmore, who had over 150 victories leading the WCHS Lady Pioneers before stepping away from the program following the 2021 season, is in his second year with WCMS. He's already seeing some stars emerge on a group that hit the ground running in the first week.
"Overall, it was two good wins to begin the season," said Willmore. "We have some things to improve on, but the girls played well considering we did not have any preseason matches due to cancellations. We have two tough matches coming up this week, but we look forward to them."
Emory MacDonald and Noelle Bratcher are leading the early scoring surge, netting goals in each game. MaDonald tallied two against DeKalb County, as did Addiysn Watson.
Harper Patrick had the third goal against Coffee County, while Izzy Rodriguez added a score against DeKalb County to help Warren County take down a pair of rivals.
In the JV matchup Tuesday, Kinsley Simpson had a hat trick for the Lady Pioneers, lighting up Coffee County with three goals. Gabbi Molloy got on the board twice and Rodriguez, Piper Watson, Ansley Pepper and Vanessa Gomez scored one goal each.
Warren County will make its home debut Monday against Tullahoma at 6 p.m. before facing Shelbyville on the road Friday, Aug. 18 at 5:30 p.m.
