WCMS plays doubleheader in tourney
Ky Damon
Ky Damon was hustling and stole a few bases to help produce runs for the WCMS softball team Wednesday night.

The WCMS Lady Pioneers played back-to-back games in the CTC Tournament on Wednesday in some cold weather.

The Lady Pioneers were red hot in the first game against Harris Middle from Shelbyville, winning 15-0.

The nightcap against Coffee County was a tougher game as Warren County fell 5-2. Warren County plays a strong White County team Friday night at the high school field at 5 p.m.

The CTC tournament is a double-elimination tournament, and the Lady Pioneers must win Friday night for their season to continue.

The Lady Pioneers faced a strong Coffee County pitcher who recorded 10 strikeouts in the second game. Warren County outhit Coffee County, but came out on the short end of runs scored.

Nevaeh Duggin and Maddox Adams combined in the circle for the first game to pitch a no-hitter for the middle school Lady Pioneers. Maggy Whiles had an inside-the-park home run in that game.

WCMS coach Joe Damon reviewed the games by stating, “The girls played well in both games. In the first game they looked to hit, and had an aggressive approach at the plate. In the game against Coffee County, we played well. When two good teams play, usually the team with the first break is able to pull away. That happened to us last Wednesday night. We will be ready to take the field Friday and play through the bracket this weekend and get another shot.”
