Nothing about the Warren County Middle School girls basketball team’s eighth-grade night went as planned Thursday. White County ruined the celebration from the start, scoring the game’s first 19 points before routing the Lady Pioneers 47-14.
Warren County found itself on the other end of a blowout after beating its last two opponents by a combined 67 points. White County, undefeated this season, flipped the script on the Lady Pioneers.
Warren County didn’t score until the second quarter, when Kyra Perkins finally broke the ice with a 3-pointer. It was one of just four makes from the field for the Lady Pioneers.
White County led 28-5 by halftime, then pushed its lead to 30 points by the end of the third quarter.
Paige Sweeton scored all four of her points in the fourth quarter, but White County extended its lead and enacted the mercy rule for the final three minutes.
Perkins finished with a team-high five points, while Bella Bain and Savannah Winfree each scored two. Sable Winfree added a free throw in the loss, which dropped the team to 9-9 overall.
Warren County will try to bounce back in the opening round of the postseason tournament, which is slated to begin this week. Bracket details were not available at press time. The online story will be updated with game times when they become available.
