WCHS volleyball tops Cumberland County

The Lady Pioneer high school volleyball team is tuning up for the district tournament next week with wins this week. The volleyball team went on the road Tuesday night to face Cumberland County in Crossville. The Lady Pioneers came home with a victory in three straight sets.

WCHS coach Erin Blalock made “start strong, finish strong” the theme for the match against Cumberland County. Coach Blalock believes her team accomplished that goal.

Blalock said, “They dominated on the net and behind the serve line and really played a good volleyball match. We had a few missteps here and there, but they pushed through and worked hard.”

Coach Blalock singled out several Lady Pioneers for their performances against Cumberland County. Blalock said, “Samantha Jennings once again was super aggressive at the net.

Mia Hobbs, Jessie Young, and Krista Chisam all had serve runs that helped the team pull away. It certainly helps to give the girls a bit of momentum heading into the last games of the season.”

The Lady Pioneers were home for Senior Night on Thursday night against Franklin County.

Results were not available at press time.

Their final match of the season will be this Saturday at home against Soddy Daisy at 10 a.m. The match Saturday at Charlie Dalton Gym is a makeup for a match that was postponed during the season because of COVID-19.

The district tournament starts Monday at Rhea County.
