The Warren County High School softball team participated in the Coffee County Tournament at Coffee County High School this past weekend.The Lady Pioneers suffered losses to Creek Wood and Franklin County in games one and two, before facing the Cookeville Lady Cavaliers in game three.The Lady Pioneers lost the game, 2-1, to the Lady Cavs in a close game throughout, ending the tournament without a win.Abby Hutchins led the charge at the plate in the final game, going 1-for-2 with an RBI. Lindsey Cox and Ashton Whiles added a hit apiece.Despite dominating on the mound against the Lady Cavs, Whiles suffered the loss, going five and one-third innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, and striking out two.With the losses, the Lady Pioneers fall to 11-12 on the season with the district tournament looming.The Lady Pioneers got runners on base in the top of the first inning but didn’t get any runs across to score. Whiles sat down the lady Cavs in order, in the bottom of the inning to keep the game scoreless.Cox and Whiles started the top of the second with singles for the Lady Pioneers and they were in business with nobody out. The Lady Pioneers went down quickly after a promising start to the inning, failing to capture the momentum as the away team.After the Lady Cavs failed to capitalize in the bottom of the inning, both team remained cold at the plate, until the top of the fifth when the Lady Pioneers broke the scoreless tie.
