The WCHS Pioneer baseball team beat Stone Memorial Saturday 6-3 in an extra eighth inning at Crossville. The victory completed back-to-back wins against the Panthers which advances Warren County to the district championship on Tuesday. The Pioneers will host Cookeville in the championship game at 6:00 PM. Both teams will advance to the region tournament, with the winner advancing as the first seed that includes a home game.
John Garrett pitched all eight innings and he was very efficient on the mound. Garrett made only 62 pitches in the game. Garrett was helped by two home runs by Ryland Holder and Wyatt Wilson. The game was scoreless for the first three innings, and Ryland Holder led off the top of the fourth inning with a solo home run that gave Warren County a 1-0 lead.
The game was tied 3-3 going into the eighth inning. At the top of the inning, Ty Martin knocked in Jace Brantley with a double, and Wyatt Wilson knocked in Ty Martin for a 2-run homer in the same inning that gave Warren County a 6-3 lead. John Garrett pitched at the bottom of the eighth inning and his infield backed him up by successful defending three infield ground balls to end the game.
