The undefeated Warren County High School junior varsity football team (3-0) produced a win over the White County Warriors on Monday night, 12-6.
“I’ll never apologize for a win because ugly or not a win is a win,” said Pioneer JV coach Paul Martin. “It was a sloppy win for us.”
Martin was happy with the win, but fundamentally the team wasn’t at its best, he said. Miscues aside, Warren County’s Josh Macanas ran the ball well and fought for some tough yards ending the contest with 86 yards on 15 carries and one TD.
Tre Ladet carried four times for 52 yards and had one interception which was key to starting the Pioneer drive which ran the clock out. QB Eric Haywood carried three times for 21 yards and a TD.
Luke Nisbett, Jared Muncey and Jorge Sifuentes all had good defensive performances.
“We have to stay on blocks and tackle correctly -- not arm tackle,” Martin said. “I am proud of the players for not quitting when things went bad for us. We have talked to them for weeks on overcoming adversity and they did that last night.”
The JV Pioneers play in Manchester on Monday beginning at 6 p.m.
