The high school golf season starts in two weeks, which gives Warren County High School golf coach J.W. Holt little time to get his team in shape.Coach Holt announced his roster last week and the teams have already started practice at McMinnville Country Club in hopes of building on last year’s season.Coach Holt has a roster of nine boys, which includes all five of his top scorers from last year, while the Lady Pioneers will have five girls playing this season.Coach Holt believes both teams have the ability to be successful this year with more experience and seasoning from last year’s up-and-down season.“Our boys team returns most of the guys who contributed to our team scores by the end of the season, our two top girls come back and we add more good talent,” said Holt. “I think we can be very competitive.”On the boys side, Eric Cantrell returns as the lone senior as the team will look to continue its youth movement.Juniors Clayton Myers, Houston Wood and Tucker Lynn were all top scorers last year, while sophomores Nicholas Powell and Nick Stern also return with plenty of varsity experience under their belts.Myers, who transferred from Boyd, Powell and Stern were all impressive in their first seasons with the Pioneers last year. Wood and Lynn were coach Holt’s top pairing last season and should compete for the honor again this season with Myers, Powell and Stern.Adding sophomores Chandler Cassel and Brock Watson along with freshmen Grant Walker, Liam Brock and Logan Bodnar should make the Pioneers even more competitive.
