Pioneer Caleb Stovall showed blazing speed Thursday in Bell Buckle to finish third overall in a 5K featuring 121 male runners. Stovall helped the Warren County boys finish first as a team.

Warren County High School cross country runners were at the front of the pack Thursday at The Webb School MSCCA Invitation in Bell Buckle.

In a field of 121 male runners, Pioneer Caleb Stovall finished third and Pioneer Alec Smith finished 10th to lead the Warren County charge in the 5K race.

Stovall’s time was an extremely speedy 17:37. Smith was also fast, crossing the finish in 19:36. He was just a little ahead of teammate James McLaughlin, who finished in 13th place with a time of 19:57.

Based on strong finishes up and down the lineup, the Warren County boys finished in first place as a team. Six Pioneer runners finished in under 21 minutes.

“I think it’s in the realm to have a whole bunch finishing in under 20 minutes by the end of the season,” said coach Anne Hunter Myers. “The goal is always to peak at the end of the season and we’re on the way to doing just that. We’re doing well and staying healthy so I’m expecting good things.”

The fastest time on the course was posted by Jack Radbill of Christ Presbyterian Academy, who showed he’s in amazing physical shape with a time of 16:38.

In girls competition, Lady Pioneer senior Emma Randall continued her fleet-footed season. She finished fifth overall in the 5K race with a time of 22:54.

There were 83 female competitors. The girls race was won by Lexie Leduc of Cannon County High School in 21:13.

Next up for Warren County is a race this Tuesday in Dunlap. Runners have a month to train before the regional race set for Oct. 26.
