WCHS cross country runner Aiden Cano, pictured during a home meet in McMinnville, was a medalist over the weekend in Winchester, finishing in 21:20.

The Warren County High School cross country teams were in Winchester over the weekend competing in the Hornet Invitational.

In high school action, Alec Smith and Aiden Cano medaled for the boys, while and Emma Randall medaled for the girls.

WCHS coach Anne Hunter-Myers was pleased with the performance.

“This was an outstanding effort Saturday for our team,” she said. “Alec Smith provided a thrilling finish to take third place, outsprinting a Shelbyville runner in the home stretch. Overall, the boys raced tactically and worked together as a team. Several runners had personal bests including sophomore Aiden Cano and senior Caleb Smith. This is significant as we have trained steadily and did not taper back going into this race.”

Myers continued, “Looking ahead we are aiming for teams like Franklin and Tullahoma. In recent years we have not bested these teams but our guys are running hard to surpass them by the end of this season. Our guys are working together to be competitive collectively. It’s not just about individuals.”

When it comes to the Lady Pioneer runners, coach Myers said, “The girls team ran competitively as a team for the first time. All but one runner are first-time high school cross country athletes. I am tremendously proud of these athletes and I know they will continue to grow and improve. Emma Randall continues to set the bar high in practice and in meets. Marissa Walker, Ainsley Stefanick, Katie Hutchins and Avery McGiboney all bring a can-do attitude to every workout.”
