The Boyd High School girls basketball team may have a new coach, but the expectations surrounding the program have never been higher.Greta Hoover assumes the role of leader for the Lady Broncos, replacing Donna Newby after she led Boyd on a pursuit of perfection in the Middle Tennessee Athletic Conference a season ago.Newby and the Lady Broncos went 15-0 in the MTAC regular season, but lost in the semifinals of the conference tournament by one point to the Middle Tennessee Heat.Despite losing four seniors who played a big part in the team’s success last season, coach Hoover believes her Boyd squad could be potent once again this season.“I’m really excited about this season and the talent we have,” said Hoover. “This is one of the hardest working groups I’ve been around.”A big reason for Hoover’s optimism is the return of a freshman class which had a big impact last year despite the players being in eighth grade. Rhiannon Hoover – the coach’s daughter – has played for the varsity team the last two years and was one of the Lady Broncos’ leading scorers a year ago.
