Matt Turner will make his public debut Monday.
Turner, the newest Pioneer football coach, will hold a meeting Monday, April 1 at 6 p.m. at the high school. Turner is hopeful fans, parents and boosters will come out as he works to change the perception of the program.
“This will be my first opportunity to speak to an important cog of this program. I want the parents to hear my passion and enthusiasm for Pioneer athletics,” said Turner. “I have to sell my vision and plan to them. I must have them encouraging their student-athletes outside of school, as well as echoing my energy in the community.”
Turner will also detail his plan of establishing a freshman program, which has included meeting with area schools. He also plans to lay out his expectations for workouts, spring practice and the summer schedule.
“Most of these are going to be different from the way they have been in the past,” said Turner.
He also hopes boosters will buy in when it comes to changing how the community views football.
“We want to change the question of ‘Are you going to the game?’ to ‘Where are we eating before the game?’ We are going to saturate our program in the community to create excitement about Friday night football,” said Turner. “We need this community to rally behind this team and, in turn, great things will happen.”
