Boyd got back in the win column in thrilling fashion Friday, topping Marion County 45-44 at home in a back-and-forth battle with the Warriors.

Brooke Kesey had a team-high 17 points, including a huge layup in the final two minutes to give her squad breathing room, and Macie Bush added 12 points as Boyd improved to 10-3 overall and snapped a two-game skid to TSSAA opponents.

"We challenged our team all week in practice to compete. I really liked the fire and intensity we played with tonight," said coach Tim Page after the game. "There are still things we can correct, but our effort was great almost the entire time. It was an important win for us to show we can execute in the clutch."

Bush ignited the Lady Broncos in the fourth quarter, hitting back-to-back 3-pointers from the left corner to send a charge through the packed crowd. Senior Kelly Bush followed with a big layup through contact, giving Boyd its biggest lead - 40-27 - early in the fourth.

Marion County was able to close the gap down the stretch, aided by Boyd missing 8-of-9 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter. Still, the Lady Broncos made sure they wouldn't surrender the lead in the waning seconds.

Cydney Jane Perry had a pair of key steals and rebounds in the last minute, Kesey bullied her way for a layup to push the gap back to three with a minute left and Boyd survived a heave from half-court with 0.8 seconds left to celebrate its third win over a TSSAA opponent this year.

Boyd will be back in action at home Monday against Watertown. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
