Monday evening in the 11-13 boys coach pitch league, MYBS led the game 1-0 until halfway through the third inning. Topz managed to cross the plate and locked the score at 1-1. Then the Topz defense held through the final two innings.
In the bottom of the fourth, Topz claimed the lead 2-1 and went on to win after MYBS was held scoreless in the top of the fifth by a final score of 2-1.
In the bottom of the fourth and the score tied 1-1, Raleigh Gilliam found a hole in the defense for a solid base hit. Gilliam then got the green light and advanced to second base. With little to no hesitation Gilliam was given the green light from his third base coach and advanced to third.
The batters who followed, Kayden Coates and Brady Melton, helped Gilliam to cross home plate and claim a 2-1 lead before the third out. A strikeout ended the inning for Topz and it would be up to the defense to end the game.
In the top of the fifth and in similar fashion MYBS started the inning off with a line-drive base hit by Joey Rasori. Rasori immediately went to work and stole second and third base. The first and second outs were made on a fly-ball and a strikeout. With two outs and Rasori on third a ground ball was thrown over to first base to end the inning and cemented the Topz win, 2-1.
The game started off with MYBS which picked up a lead-off walk by Sawyer Seymour. More walks were thrown and Seymour crossed the plate and MYBS took an early 1-0 lead.
The game started quite the opposite for Topz and the offense was retired in order its first trip to the plate.
The second inning and the top of the third was pretty quiet and not much offense from either side. The bottom of the third inning is when things started to swing into Topz favor. Back-to back base hits by Hunter Jones and Ashton Forth resulted in outs when the runners attempted to advance to the next base.
Briley Moore reached first base on a walk and his walk set up Topz first score. Kyle Johnson also helped move Moore around the bases with a hit through the infield. One run was enough to tie the game at 1-1 just before the final out and Johnson was stranded on third.
A scoreless fourth and fifth innings led to the demise of MYBS, and a strong defensive stand by Topz helped to cement the 2-1 win.
