It didn’t take long for the first upset to pop up in the elementary postseason.

Irving College, the No. 5 seed entering the 3-Pt Club tourney, was able to top No. 4 seed Dibrell on Monday, riding the hot hands of Anden Green and Drystan Cantrell to a 40-32 victory. Eastside avoided upset in the nightcap, beating Boyd 39-5.

Green, who had 17 points, and Cantrell (11 points) each hit crucial 3-pointers in the fourth quarter after Dibrell had tied the game 29-29. Green broke the tie from the left wing, while Cantrell’s long bomb from the right side put the game way with two minutes to go.

Conner Cantrell led Dibrell with eight points, followed by Andre Mietling and Dylan Hernandez with six each, Halen Myers with five, Jordin Mitchell with four, Cason Davis with two and Aiden Greene with one.

Eastside got off to a slow start against the Broncos in the second game, but dominated the final three quarters. The Bulldogs led just 4-2 early, but exploded down the stretch.

Case Livesay led Eastside with 10 points, followed by Dean Cooper with nine, Lex Winfree with six, Ty Arnold and Greyson McElyea with four each and Carter Holt, Luis Gonzalez and Matthew Elder with two points apiece.
