The sole of basketball
Shoes a critical part of on-court performance
KellyGrahamWEB
Hibbetts store manager Kelly Graham shows differences between some popular basketball footwear. The industry has advanced quite a bit in technology since the Chuck Taylor days of Converse.
The saying “clothes make the man” can be adapted a bit for the sports community. While in many sports there are definitely a criteria where the components of the uniform come together for an edge, in basketball nothing is more important than the footwear, or where the rubber meets the road so to speak.Over the years, shoes have evolved to become much better, lighter and all-around design factors which give an athlete the best support possible. One slip could equal one turnover. The first basketball shoe designed specifically for the game was the old Converse All-Star, which is still a fashion statement although you won’t see any ballers using them these days.
