Gary Steele Karate Studio had to take the long way home after falling in the first round of the tournament to Game Xchange. Now they can sing “We are the Champions” after their third-straight win in the tournament, defeating Game Xchange 6-1 for the title Tuesday night in the McMinnville Youth League boys 12-14 age group.Game Xchange was having an off night offensively, but was playing good defense keeping the score down in hopes of getting something started.Neither teams scored in the opening inning, but Gary Steele’s Jathan Cagle and Jathan Bogle both scored in the bottom of the second for a 2-0 lead.Game Xchange’s Kayden Coates scored in the third inning, but 1 run was all Gary Steele’s defense would allow for the rest of the ballgame. Will Wrisner and Jathan Cagle added 2 more runs to the total in the third and Wrisner again, along with pitcher Kendall Patrick, both scored in the fifth for the winning runs.Game Xchange wanted a repeat of the first matchup with Gary Steele, but it wasn’t in the cards Tuesday. Winning the championship completes the season for the 12-14 year old boys league with upcoming tournament games in other leagues.
