WCHS baseball tryouts
Tryouts for the WCHS baseball team are currently scheduled for Wednesday, July 31 and Thursday, August 1. Returning players are scheduled to try out from 4-6 p.m. July 31. New players will try out from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday and 5-8 p.m. Thursday.
McMinnville Youth Soccer
McMinnville Youth Soccer late registration will continue through Saturday, July 20. Players can be registered at the front desk at the Three Star Mall location or at www.mcminnvilleyouthsoccer.com.
Late registration includes a $10 additional fee from the original rate. The youth registration fee is $60 per player. The adult registration fee will be $25 per player. A $5 discount is available for multiple children.
The league is tentatively set to begin play Sept 9. Games will be played on Saturdays, with weekday games also scheduled.
and softball fall sign-ups
Registration for the MYBS fall leagues are currently underway. Sign-ups will run until August 5. The cost for boys and girls ages 5-6 is $40. Leagues for boys and girls ages 7-14 will cost $50 per player.
Drop-in registration is available at the Civic Center's location at Three Star Mall Mondays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., with additional time (4-7 p.m.) on Thursdays.
The league will play on Monday and Thursday nights starting in August and running through October.

Al Wells basketball camp
Al Wells will be conducting a basketball camp for boys and girls ages 8 to 18 at Viola Community Center from July 29 to Aug. 2. Wells has over 40 years of experience as a basketball coach. Camp hours will be 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. each night. The cost is $50. Call Wells at (931) 303-1504 for more information.
A benefit softball tournament for Cameron Miller will be held Saturday, Aug. 17 at McMinnville Civic Center. The entry fee is $200 per team.
The tournament will use WSL rules, with teams calling 0-10 home runs. Softballs must be 44 core, 400 compression. Softballs will be on sale at the event.
Miller, son of TBI agent Billy and Kate Miller, is currently awaiting a bone marrow match for transplant. Miller, 14, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
The Warren County Sheriff's Department is helping run the tournament, which will also include a raffle for donated items. To enter, contact Matt Brown at 808-3427 or Houston Cantrell at 615-418-9983. The deadline to enter is Tuesday, Aug. 13.
kids of summer
The Standard is currently accepting submissions for the 'Kids of Summer' special section, which will run Friday, Aug. 9. Any team which finished first or second in the regular season or tournament in its league can submit a photo free of charge. Teams outside the top two can submit for $20.
Photos may be brought to the Standard office or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. Submissions must include first and last names for all players and coaches, team name, league name and place of finish. Photos brought to the office will be held for one month after publication date.
Local all-star teams are asked to submit photos. Travel teams finishing in the top two at tournaments may also submit, or local players on out-of-town teams can submit individually.
