Lauren Slatton may have exhausted her eligibility at Warren County High School, but she still is one of the top amateurs in Tennessee. Slatton has been a star while playing in the Tennessee Golf Association, racking up major points in tournaments throughout 2024 as she looks to earn a spot on Team Tennessee.
The TGA released its points standings near the midway point of the 2024 season this week and Slatton stands alone at the top of the girls rankings. Slatton has amassed 228 points this season, thanks to her many top finishes in events. Isabella Johnson, a rising senior who is already committed to the University of Tennessee, is second in the standings with 173 points.
Slatton has had a busy last month, starting with taking part in the Women's Amateur championship June 18-20 at Belle Meade Country Club in Nashville. Slatton racked up a top-20 finish in a field of 60-plus players.
The following week, Slatton shot up the leaderboard in the Girls Junior championship at Hermitage, finishing tied for sixth while shooting 2-over in a three-day event.
She locked up her third top-20 finish earlier this month in Virginia while playing in the Donna Andrews Invitational in another three-day event. Slatton's next tournament will be the Women's Open.
Tennessee is taking part in the USGA's launch of state junior teams and has been selected as one of seven states for a pilot program in 2024. The hope for the new system, created by the US National Development Program, is to develop elite golfers across the country.
A committee will select eight girls and eight boys to be a part of the team. Slatton has her sights set on making the squad and is also prepping for her college career at UAB, which will begin in 2025.
