Wesley Sherrell wanted to put on a show at his old school.
A former Irving College student, Sherrell returned to Tiger country on Tuesday night as a member of the WCMS basketball team. Sherrell was at the top of his game, scoring 15 points, to help the Pioneers remain unbeaten with a 47-21 victory over Irving College in 5-6 grade basketball.
The win improves WCMS to 4-0, while Irving College falls to 2-3.
Tanner Wanamaker led Irving College in scoring with a game-high 17 points. He had his jump shot falling and he also added seven foul shots.
WCMS established control at the end of the first quarter thanks to a scoring burst from Sherrell, who scored 11 points in the first quarter alone. Sawyer Seymour, Kaden Rutledge, and Logan Earls added baskets for the Pioneers as they jumped out to a 17-3 lead.
Irving College played a scrappy game, but the Tigers could never cut the lead to single digits the rest of the way. In addition to Wanamaker, Hunter Fults scored 3 points and Abram Stinson added 1 point for Irving College.
Other scorers for WCMS were Jax King with 8, Earls with 6, Levi Melton and Rutledge with 4 points each, and Seymour, Braylon Grayson, J.J. Jacobs, Owen Clark, and Evan Watts with 2 points each.
