The Boyd Christian Broncos got their revenge against local rival Covenant Academy on Tuesday night, winning 76-54. The Broncos first beat the Lions in a tournament hosted by Covenant, but the Lions got revenge by beating the Broncos 66-65 later in the season.

On Boyd’s Senior Night, the Broncos intended on defending their home gym as every senior scored in their last home game. Christian Rogers led Boyd in points, putting up a whopping 36 points and scoring almost every Bronco point in the first quarter.

“It feels great,” said Rogers on his big night. “It’s a great atmosphere with my team and my coaches.”

The game was close at the beginning with Covenant pulling ahead thanks to Noah Mason and Smit Patel putting up 3s and jump shots. The rival teams fought for the lead in the second quarter.

Luke Campbell and Caleb Hines kept the Lions ahead with jump shots and layups, but Cameron Chilcutt, Jake Jones, and Rogers kept the Broncos alive with a 3-pointer each, leaving the halftime score 23-22 in Covenant’s favor.

The gym was erupting as fans from both schools filled the room with competitive excitement.

The third quarter was hot as Sam Page knocked out three 3-pointers for Boyd. The Broncos stampeded in the third quarter putting up a staggering 27 points, allowing them to take an 11-point lead over Covenant going into the fourth.

The last quarter would prove just as difficult for the Lions as the Broncos would land another 27 points. Despite Campbell knocking out two 3-pointers for Covenant, Boyd wasn’t slowing down. Not to mention, the Broncos made about 91% of their foul shots by only missing one the entire game.

Boyd beat Covenant 76-54 in a second half runaway by the Broncos, defending their home gym to the local rivals.
