The Eastside Bulldogs were no strangers to tournament play this season. Having won the Woodbury Classic, Morrison Ruritan tournament, Warren Lodge Masonic tournament and the 7-8 grade elementary tournament championships, the Bulldogs went into the TNT state tournament as a title favorite.Eastside made a run at the crown, reaching the final game, but the Bulldogs tasted defeat in the finals when the team lost to Allons Middle School 45-39.Eastside, which finished the season with a 22-2 record, was dominant from the moment it stepped foot on the court in November and barely slowed down throughout the season. The Bulldogs demolished opponents with their blend of dominating posts and great guards, often winning games by 20 or more points.Only Allons Middle School, located north of Cookeville, could finally end Eastside’s run when Reuben Davidson scored 22 points in the title game to beat the Bulldogs.Even with the season ending with a loss, coach Kevin Burnett was extremely proud of the way his team played throughout the year.“This was an exceptional group, one you don’t get very often,” said Burnett. “I’ve been coaching for 20 years and this group was one of the best ball teams I’ve had at Eastside.”“We played exceptionally well and played some tough competition.
