Baseball and softball players don’t have to put their bats and gloves up for the summer. There’s still more opportunities to get on the diamond at the city fields.
Registration is currently ongoing for youth fall ball leagues for both baseball and fast-pitch softball, as well as T-ball and coach-pitch leagues. The season is schedule run from Sept. 5 until Nov. 2.
Participation in youth baseball and softball has been on the rise locally, with McMinnville Parks and Recreation Athletic Director Terry Beard noting that over 500 kids took part in the summer leagues this year (up noticeably from years past) and they had a record number of kids last fall.
There’s hope that even more than the 250-plus kids who played in last year’s fall league will show up for this year’s games. T-ball leagues are available for kids ages 3-6, while coach-pitch will stay in place for boys 7-8 and girls 7-9. Kids will pitch in baseball starting in the leagues for ages 9 and up, while there will be a fast-pitch softball league available for girls 10-13.
The registration cost is $45 for ages 3-6 and $55 for ages 7 and up. Online registration is available by searching athletics on the mcminnvilletn.gov website and in-person registration is being held every Monday from 5:30-7 p.m. at Milner Recreation Center.
