WCHS tennis coach David Dunlap has hit an ace in his first year back as the head coach. One of his tennis players, Alessandro Prando, is the boys District 6 champion.
There are 11 teams in District 6, which is divided into two divisions, Central and East.
Prando won Warren County’s Central District over Cookeville’s Jackson Hethcox 6-2, 6-2.
Prando then played against the East District winner from Hixson, Chapman Brown. Prando won that match, and he advances to the region tournament which will be played this week.
Coach Dunlap is ecstatic about Prando’s district tournament performance. Dunlap said, “Alessandro played the best match he played all season against Brown. He won the Central District on Thursday and today (Friday) he won the district against Chapman Brown from Hixson. I think the lowest win he had was something like 6-2, 6-1. He did not lose a match in the tournament.”
Prando, a senior, is from Italy. He has a well-rounded game.
Prando has the speed to cover the court and also has the power to whiz the ball past opponents with hard shots. Factor in a strong serve and he is a complete player, one coach Dunlap believes can make waves at the region tournament.
Other members of the Warren County tennis team competed in the district tournament. Easton West won a singles match in the tournament, as did the doubles team of Ben Campos and Mitchell Carter for the boys. The doubles combination of Rachel Jackson and Adeline Randall won for the girls.
However, Prando is the only WCHS player to advance past district competition.
