Platinum Roofing tops Pioneer Pediatrics

Platinum Roofing and Pioneer Pediatrics went up against each other in the second round of the boys 9-11 baseball tournament at Sam Martin Field on Tuesday night. Pioneer Pediatrics held a four-run lead after two innings of play, but Platinum Roofing stormed back and scored 10 unanswered runs to win the game, 11-5, eliminating Pioneer Pediatrics from the tournament.Alex van Vuuren, Dominique Kirby and Alex Tallent led the way in the hit column for Platinum Roofing as they each had two hits apiece.Van Vuuren also got it done on the mound, coming on in relief, going two innings, allowing no runs and striking out five batters.In the loss for Pioneer Pediatrics, Baler Melton went 2-for-2 with a single, double and a walk.Melton suffered the loss on the mound in his team’s final game of the season as he allowed 11 runs, while striking out nine batters.Kirby broke the scoreless tie in the top of the second with an RBI single, scoring van Vuuren from third, 1-0.A 2-RBI double by Melton and three walks by Platinum Roofing, all scoring runs, gave Pioneer Pediatrics the four-run advantage, 5-1, heading into the third.A 2-RBI single by van Vurren, followed by four consecutive RBI singles, gave Platinum Roofing the lead once again, 7-5.Pioneer Pediatrics failed to score in the bottom of the inning and Platinum Roofing took full advantage in the top half of the fourth.A 2-RBI triple by van Vuuren stretched the Platinum Roofing lead to four, 9-5. Tallent came up later in the inning and blasted a 2-RBI single to the outfield and Platinum Roofing finally had some breathing room, 11-5.Pioneer Pediatrics got a runner on base in the bottom of the inning but failed to see any runs cross the plate, giving Platinum Roofing the victory.
