As coach Joey Haston said following Thursday night’s game against White County, the Pioneers made their own luck. Warren County battled back from an early deficit to defeat the Warriors 6-5 in eight innings at Patrick Ramsey Field. It may have taken two errors from the Warriors in the final inning for the Pioneers to put the winning run across the plate, but after the bad luck which has befallen Warren County during the season, coach Haston wasn’t going to hand back the team’s second District 6-AAA win.Derek Brumley threw six innings of relief and struck out seven while allowing one run to help the Pioneers stay in the game after falling behind 4-0 after three innings. Garrison Holmes came through with four RBIs to tie the game and freshman Logan Underhill came up with two great at-bats late to help Warren County move to 7-14.Coach Haston thought his trio of players were a big reason why the Pioneers were able to hang around and ultimately defeat the Warriors.“Derek did an outstanding job in relief and kept us in the game,” said Haston.
