It’s rare a team is able to survive a one-point first quarter and win, but the Warren County Middle School boys basketball team pulled it off Monday night at home. The Pioneers didn’t score until there was no time left on the clock in the opening period, but the team rallied back to dispatch the Franklin North Gators 39-34 to even its record at 4-4 this season.Isaiah Grayson was able to snap the Pioneers’ scoreless streak when he was fouled as time expired in the first quarter. Standing alone on the court, Grayson buried his second free throw for Warren County’s first point of the game. Thanks to a stingy Pioneer defense, the deficit was only 4-1 after the first quarter. Warren County got free throws from Alex Jones and Jamison Holt to start the second period, but the team wouldn’t hit a field goal until Grayson streaked in for a layup midway through the quarter.Grayson’s bucket – part of a 20-point night for the Pioneer forward – seemed to get the lid off the basket for the home team.
