White County puts beating on WCHS

The Warren County High School boys basketball team got to enjoy a rare win in White County High School gym last Thursday in the District 6-AAA play-in game against Coffee County, but 48 hours later the Pioneers got a reminder how hard it is to defeat the Warriors on their home court.The top-seeded Warriors destroyed the Pioneers 82-44 Saturday night, ending any chance Warren County could run the table to claim the district tournament title.Warren County (13-19) was hopeful a 51-50 victory over the Red Raiders Thursday would propel it to a three-game winning streak in the district tournament, but White County ended any hopes of a championship early.The Warriors outscored the Pioneers 23-6 in the first quarter, taking a commanding lead they would never relinquish.Warren County didn’t hit a shot from the field in the second quarter at the team’s first seven points were scored at the free-throw line. Senior Nick Simmons finally broke the streak with a layup shortly after the second quarter started as he scored 10 points in the period.The Pioneers went into halftime trailing 37-20 and it would only get worse when the second half began. White County erupted for 32 points in the third quarter, led by 13 points from Kordell Henderson.
