The Pioneers knew they had a rough road going into a regional game in Ooltewah on Monday. The path turned from rough to rocky as the Ooltewah Owls had 4 runs on the board by the fourth inning and held the Pioneers to a null score until the top of the sixth.
Having their best offense in the sixth inning, Warren County put 2 on the board as an Isaac Golden triple to centerfield scored runner Cole Estes and Wesley Jennings singled to center driving in Golden for what would be the final score, 4-2.
In the low-hitting pitching battle, the Pioneers doubled the Owls production ending with 8 hits compared to Ooltewah’s 4. Ooltewah was able to capitalize more on its production.
Tyler Hollingsworth took the loss for the Pioneers, throwing all six innings giving up 4 hits and 4 runs with 4 strikeouts and 3 walks.
Warren County’s Estes (1 run) and Jennings (1 RBI) both went 2-for-3 at the plate. Colby Elkins, Golden (1 run, 1 RBI), and Ethan Smith all had 1 hit each in the contest.
The regional loss ended a winning season for Warren County having 23 wins and 13 losses. Cookeville and Rhea County accounted for almost half of the Pioneers losses, having fallen to each team three times this season.
