It’s going to be tough to beat the Morrison Lady Eagles this year if Lia Wright can dominate the paint and Brienne Kelsey can knock down shots from the perimeter. That one-two combination was in full force Friday night as Morrison captured a thrilling 38-36 victory over Boyd to win the Morrison Ruritan 7-8 grade girls tournament.Wright finished as tournament MVP and scored 14 points in the finals. She received a big boost from the Eagle-eye shooting of Kelsey, who drained four 3-pointers on her way to 12 points.Boyd’s Alaina Stiles finished as the game-high scorer with 15.With the score tied 24-24 after three quarters, Wright hit the “takeover the game” button in the fourth quarter. With the preseason championship on the line, Wright couldn’t be stopped and scored 10 points in the fourth quarter alone.Morrison’s Marcie Pope was also clutch, scoring all four of her points in the fourth. The Lady Eagles needed all of those points because Stiles came to play in the final minutes too.
