Let the madness begin

At this time of the year, sports fans are usually checking their brackets daily - if it hasn't already been thrown away. March Madness was canceled this year, but the Standard has all brackets lovers covered.

Sports fans can now vote on the biggest sports moments of the 2019-20 WCHS school year. Every one is hoping there will be more games to come, but it's already been a fantastic school year for the Pioneers and Lady Pioneers.

The finalists are grouped by season, with a fourth 'miscellaneous' group added to give Standard readers and followers a local Sweet 16. Taking the top seeds were the Pioneer basketball team winning a district title on a buzzer beater (winter sports), the football cheerleaders claiming the TSSAA state title (miscellaneous division), the Pioneer football team earning its first win over a Rutherford County school since 1997 (fall) and a trio of Pioneers combining to throw a no-hitter (spring).

There's plenty of huge moments in the bracket, so don't miss your chance to vote. Voting will open  on Sunday, April 5, on the Standard's Twitter (@ssstandardsports) page. The first round will last until Monday night at 7 p.m.

The second round - or Elite 8 - will begin Tuesday at noon and last until Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Final 4 voting will begin Thursday at noon and expire at 7 p.m. Friday, April 10.
