The Lady Pioneers prevailed in the second of back-to-back games Thursday, vanquishing Franklin County’s Lady Rebels, 41-39, to go 2-0 on the first day of the Russell Barnett Tip-off Classic in Tullahoma.
“We were definitely tired,” said Warren County High School coach Shea Panter. “We did not sub as much as the first game so many had to fight fatigue. We never gave up and fought to the end. I was glad to see them rally and hold on for the win.”
The Lady Pioneers stuck with their tried-and-true ability to distribute the basketball. A fourth-quarter surge was the decider as Lady Pioneer Megan Patch tickled the nylon with two 3-pointers. Elsa Eckenrod also dialed long distance with a 3-pointer, Tyra Wright hit a field goal for 2 points more and Emily Mikkola hit one from the foul line to cinch a very tight win, outscoring the Lady Rebels, 12-8.
Fighting through the pain and adding enough points for the win were Eckenrod with 11 points, Patch had 9, Anna Bain 9, Wright 8, and Mikkola had 3 points total.
The Lady Pioneer task isn’t over yet. There’s one more game they played Saturday. Results were not available at press time.
Next up is a regular season-opener game when the Lady Pioneers play host to Tullahoma for White Out Night right here at Warren County High School. Game time is 6 p.m.
