The Lady Pioneers rolled into Coffee County on Tuesday night with plenty of momentum after they defeated the Siegel Lady Stars the night before.
The Lady Pioneer offense picked up right where it left off and they rolled out of Coffee County with a 62-37 win over the Lady Red Raiders.
The game’s high scorer was Abby Morgan of Coffee County with 14 points. For Warren County, Elsa Eckenrod had the hot hand and she led the Lady Pioneers with 13. Nine of her 13 points came off a trio of 3-point shots.
The Lady Pioneers made an impressive statement right out of the gate. It took very little time for the Lady Pioneer offense to heat up. The Warren County offense had its way with the Lady Red Raider defense.
Kristen Rowland took aim and pulled the trigger on a deep 3-point shot. The shot found its mark and the Lady Pioneers started to pull away from Coffee County. Eckenrod matched Rowland and fired a 3-point shot of her own that found the bottom of the net.
Marlee Smith and Rylan Moore put in work inside the paint and the two combined for eight points. Moore was perfect on her two attempts from the charity stripe. Saydee Winfree was also perfect from the free-throw line and Allison Hitchcock shot 1-of-2 in the first quarter.
Warren County (5-5) pulled away and took a commanding 19-3 lead after the first quarter.
In the second, Warren County was very aggressive and the defense attracted plenty of whistles. The Lady Raiders made most of their points off free throws. Out of 21 attempts, Coffee County connected 10 times. Hollie Smithson was perfect and shot 4-of-4 on her trips to the free-throw line. Coffee County’s offense settled in and started to put points on the board.
Alliyah Williams for Coffee County was the only player to get a shot to fall outside the free-throw line.
On the Lady Pioneer side of the court, it was more free throws. Warren County connected on 6-of-12 from the free-throw line. Callie Cathcart scored all three of her points in the second quarter from the charity-stripe. Jayden Smith also knocked down a pair of free throws before the half.
Winfree added a pair of baskets before she collided with a Lady Red Raider and attempted to draw a charge that sent her to the sideline. Winfree took a shot to the knee and did not return. Warren County led 33-17 at the half.
The Lady Pioneers were a step ahead of the Lady Red Raiders for the remainder of the game. Eckenrod broke free for a pair of 3-point shots in the third. Megan Patch also connected from behind the arch and delivered her only points of the game. Smith took control in the paint again after the half and she earned seven points for her efforts.
Coffee County continued to struggle and Warren County dominated the third quarter in passing, shooting, and getting down the floor. After three quarters, Coffee County trailed 51-31.
There would be no late-game heroics as Coffee County posted a dismal six points in the final period. All of those six points came from Morgan.
The Lady Pioneers got minutes and points from their bench in the fourth. Anna Bain picked up a basket in close and earned a trip to the free-throw line where she made good on 2-of-4 attempts. Tyra Wright shot a perfect 2-of-2 from the line.
It was all Warren County on Tuesday night in Coffee County and the Lady Pioneers defeated the Lady Red Raiders by a final score of 62-37.
Warren County is in White County tonight versus the Warriorettes. The Lady Pioneers return home Dec. 15 against Wilson Central with tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m.
