Marli McBride for WCMS slips behind the Lady Tiger defense and watches her first shot attempt drop versus Irving College.

The WCMS Lady Pioneers did not look as impressive as in previous games, although they picked up another win Tuesday night versus the Lady Tigers of Irving College by a final score of 24-16.
Katie Toney for WCMS matched the entire point total of the Lady Tigers. Toney unloaded for 16 points and led all scorers in front of her home crowd.
WCMS outran Irving College down the floor in the opening quarter and Toney led the Lady Pioneers with four of her 16-point total. WCMS capitalized on Lady Tiger mistakes. Breezy Wanamaker and Mia Hobbs each connected from outside in the first and Irving College trailed after one, 8-4.
Irving College regrouped and slowed down the pace in their favor. The slower pace allowed the Lady Tiger defense to hold the Lady Pioneers to a minimum. WCMS struggled to find offense in the second quarter versus the slower paced Lady Tigers.
It was Toney again who connected for a single shot in the second for WCMS. Jessie Young scored the only Lady Tiger basket in the much tougher second quarter. WMCS led the Lady Tigers 10-6 at the break.
WCMS came out of halftime rejuvenated and refreshed. The Lady Pioneers came out in a hurry and Toney went back to work. Irving College had an answer for everyone except the quick hands and feet of Toney, who continued her pursuit of the basket. She added eight more points and Marli McBride drained a pair of free throws.
Hobbs led Irving College with four and the Lady Tigers had lost their way to the basket. WCMS capitalized and extended its lead.
The fourth quarter was a defensive quarter played by WCMS as the Lady Pioneers tried to fend off the Lady Tiger attack. Irving College won the quarter led by Ashlyn Fults and Hobbs, but it was not enough to claim the lead and WCMS defeated Irving College, 24-16.
