Amid a season of struggle, the Warren County High School girls softball team was able to pick up its first win of the season in the Cookeville tournament.The Lady Pioneers defeated Collierville 3-1 Saturday in the first round of a single-elimination tournament, but finished the weekend 1-4 overall.Warren County suffered three losses in pool play to begin action in Cookeville, extending a seven-game losing streak to start the season. The Lady Pioneers entered the single-elimination tournament Saturday at noon knowing another loss would send the team home for the weekend, but Monica Lane and Bailey Walker had other plans.Lane picked up her first win by allowing only six hits and one run over seven innings, while Walker’s bases-loaded double provided the Lady Pioneers enough runs for the win.Lane, who has been stellar on the mound during her senior season, pitched her best game of the season when the stakes were the highest. Lane only had one blemish, a solo home run to start the fourth inning, but it came after Walker had provided the Lady Pioneers a lead.Samantha Weeter, who had seven hits over four games, started a fourth-inning rally with a one-out double.
