Lady Pioneers lose district title

All season, the Lady Pioneer soccer team has been pushing for a District 6-AAA title. On Thursday night, Warren County was only one win away, but standing in the way was their longtime rivals, the Cookeville Lady Cavaliers.Cookeville once again spoiled a Warren County celebration by beating the Lady Pioneers 2-1 in the finals of the District 6-AAA tournament.Warren County (16-4) and Cookeville split the regular-season series, making Thursday night’s match the rubber game between the two teams.Coach Todd Willmore thought the Lady Pioneers outplayed Cookeville for most of the game, but a few fortunate breaks went to the visitors in the championship.“I felt like, in the first half especially, we outplayed them,” said Willmore. “We dominated possession, but they took advantage of some small breakdowns.”Warren County had many scoring opportunities early, but all the shots were near misses.
