Lady Pioneers dominate White County

Hope Mullican was the first Lady Pioneer to come across the plate in the first inning Tuesday against White County. She wouldn’t be the last.
The Warren County Middle School girls softball team scored 10 runs in the first inning and would go on to blow out the Warriorettes 15-0 in a three-inning game. The victory was the Lady Pioners’ eighth in a row and improved the team to 14-3 overall this season.
Scoring 15 runs is always an impressive feat, especially when the Lady Pioneers only went to bat three times against White County. The number was particularly noteworthy because it was much larger than the team’s hit total – which stood at two.
The first inning resembled a walk-a-thon as Warren County players trotted around the bases on free passes. A heavy rain didn’t help the visitors as the slippery ball made throwing strikes an impossible task.
When the Lady Pioneers weren’t walking home or scoring on a number of passed balls, Lexie Chadwell and Kyra Hillis were providing timely base hits. Chadwell and Hillis each had two-run singles in the contest and they were the only hits in the game for either team.
Mullican threw her second no-hitter in a three-inning game this season when she held White County hitless at home Tuesday night. The rain didn’t seem to bother the eighth-grade hurler for the Lady Pioneers as she struck out four batters to earn her sixth win this season.
The game was ultimately called in the bottom of the third when Warren County plated five runs in the frame to enact the mercy rule.
Warren County will be back in action Friday night at home when the team puts its winning streak on the line against Avery Trace. Action at WCHS softball field is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
